Hannibal Regional Foundation recently hosted its annual Paws for a Cause. The walk, officially sponsored by Mark Twain Casino, took place September 23rd on the Healthy Way Fitness Trail and had over 150 individuals and 50 dogs registered for the event. This year set a record, raising nearly $5,000. Leading the walk was Mary Dunaway of Shelbina and her dog, Buddy. Participants enjoyed a walk around the Healthy Way Fitness Trail, professional photographs with their buddies, and a water station staffed by the James E. Cary Cancer Center team. All funds raised from the event benefit the James E. Cary Cancer Center and Hannibal Regional Infusion Center.
When Mary Dunaway of Shelbina was diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2013, she began a journey that changed her life and reinforced her strong belief that when trials come, Everybody Needs a Buddy. Upon diagnosis, Mary turned to the James E. Cary Cancer Center in Hannibal for her cancer treatments. Throughout her treatments she received support from the Cancer Center staff, family, friends and Buddy, her golden retriever. Mary helps people remember that Everybody Needs a Buddy when they face cancer. A great crowd came out to unite in the fight against cancer and support Mary, Buddy, and all those in the region who are fighting cancer.
