Congratulations to the New 2017 Medical Staff Officers

iv-article-metlis-maple-bashoOn November 29, 2016, Hannibal Regional Hospital elected Schuyler Metlis, MD, as President of the Medical Staff. He follows Michael J. Bukstein, MD, whose one-year term expired December 31, 2016.

Dr. Metlis looks forward to meeting the high expectations set by his predecessor. He says, “I am honored to have been elected to serve as President of the Medical Staff for 2017 and promise to do everything possible to help the medical staff address its needs and the health of our community.”

Having worked at Hannibal Regional Hospital and Hannibal Regional Medical Group for the past eight years, Metlis is well-known throughout Hannibal and the surrounding communities. He has watched the hospital and the medical group grow and evolve over the past eight years, in particular the past two years. However, Metlis states the one thing which has remained constant is “everyone continues to provide quality care working toward our common goal of ‘Your health is our mission’.”

Metlis is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Medical Association and Missouri State Medical Association. Over the past eight years, he has served on several committees for Hannibal Regional including the Credentials Committee, Joint Conference Committee, Process Improvement Committee, Bylaws Committee and the Emergency Services Committee. He is also the immediate past-president of the Missouri Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

In looking toward the future, Metlis promises to do everything in his power to continue to nurture and expand the positive culture that exists at Hannibal Regional with the help and guidance of Hannibal Regional Hospital Leadership.

Rahul Basho, MD, will serve as Vice-President of the Hannibal Regional Medical Staff. Basho notes, “I’ve been a part of large academic institutions in the past and have always been impressed at the high level of care we deliver in a community hospital.  To be part of the team that ensures that tradition continues is an honor.”

Laura Maple, MD, will serve as Secretary and Treasurer. Maple stated, “As the Medical Staff Treasurer I have an opportunity to use my leadership skills. Physician involvement in leadership roles is beneficial to fellow physicians and patients as we work together as a medical staff to serve the community in both outpatient and inpatient services.”
