Recently we had the pleasure to announce that we received service excellence awards and 5-star ratings from Healthgrades for the quality of our interventional cardiology care and orthopedic joint replacement procedures.  Healthgrades is the leading online resource helping consumers make informed decisions when looking for the right doctor, the right hospital, and the right care. These achievements are part of findings and data released in the Healthgrades 2016 Report to the Nation.  Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 33 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. A 5-star rating indicates that a hospital’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.

At the recent awards ceremony we were presented with the Healthgrades 2016 Coronary Intervention Excellence Award™, placing us in the top 5% in the nation for coronary interventional procedures. We’re excited to share that we are the only hospital in Missouri to be in this top five percent. We were also named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention ™, recognizing us among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for coronary interventional procedures.

Patients treated for heart attacks in hospitals with a 5-Star quality rating for in-hospital mortality have, on average, a 48.2% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals with a 1-star rating for in-hospital mortality. Similarly, patients treated for heart attacks in hospitals with a 1-star rating for in-hospital mortality are, on average, 1.9 times more likely to die than if they were treated in hospitals with 5 stars for in-hospital mortality.

At the awards ceremony we were also honored to receive the Healthgrades 2016 Joint Replacement Excellence Award™ placing us among the top 10% in the nation for joint replacement procedures.  Related Healthgrades orthopedic accolades for us include 5-Star recognition for total knee replacement procedures for the third year in a row (2014-2016), and 5-Star recognition for total hip replacement procedures for six consecutive years (2011-2016).

“We take great pride in knowing that Hannibal Regional has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 100 best hospitals for coronary interventional treatment for heart disease and that we have once again received the Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award”, said President and CEO C. Todd Ahrens. “These awards and accolades are only possible because of our dedicated team of physicians, nurses, and other team members who work together tirelessly to provide high-quality patient care.”

Healthgrades clinical procedure awards are based on an analysis of individual hospital mortality and complication data. For its analysis, Healthgrades independently evaluates approximately 40 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide, and assesses hospital performance relative to each of 33 common conditions and procedures. Hospitals may not opt-in or opt-out. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality.
