January 18th the HRH Nursing Development and Business Development departments collaborated in sponsoring an educational training regarding Wound Care Management. The five hour educational activity was designed for both long term care and bedside nurses to expand on their knowledge base. Several nurses from the surrounding communities were in attendance as well as HRH nursing staff.
Julia Dent, RN, BSN CWOCN presented the newest evidence based information regarding care and treatment of pressure injuries and wounds. Pressure injury staging was reviewed as well as negative pressure wound therapy. Skin anatomy, phases of wound healing, and how to maintain a physiological wound environment were discussed. Each participant was awarded 5.0 continuing education hours. Positive evaluations were received and several requests for further educational activities were requested.
The next Nursing Grand Rounds offered by the Nursing Development department will be Friday February 23rd presented by Keith Griffeth, RN, BSN, MBA, CIC entitled MDRO: Protect Your Patient, Protect Yourself!
