March is designated as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness month and our gastroenterologists, Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Almashhrawi want to remind you to get screened.  Signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer only appear when the cancer has progressed to late stage cancer or has spread. Getting screened on a regular basis is one of the best things you can do to prevent colorectal cancer.

“Talk with your healthcare provider about which screening option is right for you,” says Dr. Almashhrawi.  “No matter which test you choose, the most important thing is that you get checked.” It’s important to keep in mind that if cancer is found at an early stage during screening, treatment is more likely to be effective.  To find out which screening option is right for you visit with your primary care provider or contact Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Almashhrawi’s office at 629-3500.

Dr. Ahmed joined Hannibal Regional Medical Group in 2018 and is board certified in gastroenterology as well as fellowship trained in Hepatology and Gastroenterology.  Dr. Ahmed enjoys taking care of her patients, getting to know them and their health concerns and helping them feel better. “When you don’t feel well, it’s hard to enjoy even the smallest activities – one of the best things about my job is that I can help people feel better and get them back to enjoying life” shares Dr. Ahmed.

Dr. Almashhrawi joined Hannibal Regional Medical Group in 2016 and is board certified in gastroenterology as well as fellowship trained in Hepatology and Gastroenterology.   Dr. Almashhrawi has enjoyed being part of the Hannibal community and the Hannibal Regional team, he shares, “I enjoy working at Hannibal Regional and look forward to coming to work each day.  The entire team at Hannibal Regional – from administration to housekeeping – has made my time here wonderful and I’m so glad my family has joined me.”
