Are you struggling with stress from a bad day? Sometimes one of the best things you can do is stop what you’re doing and take a walk.

Walking is a great stress-buster. Taking a break from what’s stressing you helps free your mind. And it’s good exercise. Exercise of any kind can improve your mood and help you sleep better. It can also cause your brain to release feel-good chemicals called endorphins.

Walking is also a wonderful way to control your weight. In fact, in a national registry of people who have succeeded at losing a lot of weight and keeping it off for the long-term, over 25 percent say that walking is their main form of exercise.

Plus, if you’re not already active, walking is the easiest way to start moving your body. You really only need some comfortable shoes to start. And you can do more than just circle your block:

  • Get to know more of your neighborhood and maybe meet new friends.

  • Explore a nearby historic district.

  • Take a walking tour.

  • Check out some easy hiking trails.

So the next time you’re feeling a little stressed, grab your sneakers and walk it off.
